Sustainability — 7 Day Bali Itinerary’s Environmental & Community Commitments

Our Sustainability & Community Impact Commitment

At 7 Day Bali Itinerary, we believe that true luxury is inseparable from responsibility. The stunning landscapes and vibrant culture of Indonesia are not just a backdrop for our tours; they are a precious resource that we have a duty to protect and nurture. Our commitment to sustainability is not a marketing initiative—it is a core operational principle that informs every decision we make, from the partners we choose to the experiences we design. Our goal is to ensure that our presence is a net positive for the environment and the local communities we are privileged to visit. This commitment is a key part of our vetting process for all partners.

Environmental Stewardship

We are acutely aware of the environmental impact of travel and are taking concrete, measurable steps to minimize our footprint.

  • Carbon Offsetting Program: We calculate the carbon emissions from all ground transportation for every itinerary we operate. We then offset 100% of these emissions through a partnership with a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certified reforestation project in the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Borneo, Indonesia.
  • Strict Single-Use Plastic Policy: We have a zero-tolerance policy for single-use plastic water bottles. All guests are provided with high-quality, reusable stainless steel water flasks upon arrival. Our vehicles are equipped with large, refillable water gallons, and we only partner with hotels and restaurants that have demonstrated a clear commitment to eliminating single-use plastics.
  • Marine Conservation Contribution: For every guest who books a Komodo or Gili Islands extension, we make a direct financial contribution to the Coral Triangle Center in Sanur, Bali. This supports their vital work in marine protected area management, sustainable fisheries, and public education.
  • Reef-Safe Practices: We mandate the use of reef-safe sunscreen for all guests on marine excursions and educate them on proper snorkeling and diving etiquette to prevent damage to fragile coral ecosystems.

Community Empowerment & Economic Impact

Our business model is designed to create sustainable livelihoods and empower local communities, ensuring that the economic benefits of tourism are distributed equitably.

  • Hyper-Local Employment: We are proud that over 95% of our on-the-ground team, including guides, drivers, and operational staff, are hired from the local communities in which we operate. We invest in their professional development through continuous training in safety, language skills, and sustainable tourism practices. All staff are provided with fair wages, health insurance (BPJS Kesehatan), and social security (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).
  • Prioritizing Local Enterprises: We actively seek out and prioritize partnerships with locally-owned businesses. This includes family-run ‘warungs’ for authentic culinary experiences, independent boutique hotels in places like Sidemen, and artisan workshops in the villages around Ubud. This approach keeps tourism revenue within the local economy.
  • Community-Based Tourism Initiatives: In destinations like Sidemen, we collaborate with local village cooperatives (‘koperasi’) to develop and promote low-impact tourism experiences, such as guided rice paddy treks and traditional weaving workshops. A portion of the fee for these experiences goes directly to a community development fund.

Cultural Preservation

We approach Balinese and Indonesian culture with the utmost respect and a desire to be active participants in its preservation.

  • The ‘7 Day Bali Itinerary’ Cultural Fund: We allocate 1% of our annual profits to a dedicated fund that supports local cultural preservation projects. Our current focus is supporting a ‘sanggar’ (community arts group) in a village near Ubud, providing funding for gamelan instruments and costumes for young dancers, ensuring these traditions are passed to the next generation.
  • Educating on Etiquette: A key part of our pre-trip briefing for guests involves detailed education on local customs and etiquette, particularly concerning temple visits and interaction with local communities. Our guides, led by our cultural expert Gede Suardika, reinforce these principles on the ground.

Our journey towards becoming a fully sustainable and regenerative travel company is ongoing. We are committed to transparency and continuous improvement, and we welcome a dialogue with our guests and partners on how we can do even better.
